Positions im looking for

This entry is more for me to remember... BUT...

People and positions im still looking for. (Credit will be given and some payment can be worked out as well...)

General:

-SCREENERS
[towards the end, i will need "screeners" to run my footage by to make sure the film is working... you may think this sounds easy, but it require some serious feedback of what works and what doesnt for you. If you think you are up for it... toss your name in the pot for consideration :)]

-PHOTOGRAPHER
[I will need a headshot for the press packet and i dont have one yet. So if you are up for taking some professional pics of "yours truly" throw your name into the bucket]

-SOUND DESIGNER
[for obvious reason... the film will need sound... and good sound at that... no cheapo stuff here]

-COMPOSER
[Do you like to make original music... then this could be for you!]

3D / Animation:

-RIGGER (3D)
[I Need a RIGGER for my 2 characters. ASAP(this person needs to know Maya)]

-LIGHTER (3D)
[It is still early for lighting, but i will most likely need one to give my film that extra something]

-TEXTURE ARTIST (3D)
[this is a maybe... as i am doing the textures right now... but if the look doesn't go over well with my committee then it could change]

Pre-Production:

-CONCEPT ARTIST (2D)
[I would like to commission someone to make concept art up for the film so i can give others an idea of the look (i can see it in my head but others cant)... this person would be provided with reference but also given freedom to improve or enhance my ideas and the possible look of the film]

-MATTE PAINTER (2D)
[Once again... this is not an immediacy just yet, and i may already have someone taking care of this for me... the look must get locked before this happens]

-STORYBOARD ARTIST (2D)
[I have completed preliminary storyboards but if someone really shows interest i would love to see someone else take them and make some really nice looking boards. In animation, you can never have enough detailed information going into production]

that is it folks...

Remember, if you... or someone you know is interested in any of these positions send me a note and we will start a dialogue. I will need to see examples of your work also. thanks!

Out with the old, in with the new

So, I have been modeling what is to be the control room of sorts for the world my characters live on. Ive been working on it for a few weeks now and its been slow going. Ive been simply frustrated by it and today i asked myself "why?"

the answer? I hate it... i hate the layout of it... its quite frankly a really crappy layout...

so i went back to the drawing board and sketched out a whole new and cleaner layout... and im already much happier with it... this is what i SHOULD have been working with all along...

Where the old space felt claustrophobic, Ive now opened the space up. Im thinking "original Star Trek" of sorts. i want clean, smooth lines... and that "future" but not "too future" look. I wanted something that actually somewhat looked like someone, somewhere had sat down and designed this room on paper and then hired a team of people to build it.

The old room didnt give me that... and this room is... so yeah... its like a fresh start... almost.

hope you like it as much as i do.

spots to fill

As for where my thesis film stands... im still modeling the interior of the control room... But I have some positions i would like to fill... and yes, there might be some pay involved but it would need to be worked out... i need interest first!

People and positions im looking for. (Credit will be given and some payment can be worked out as well... understand that i am in college though and not made of money)

-RIGGER [I Need a RIGGER for my 2 characters. (this person needs to know Maya)]

early control room

Just to prove ive been doing something... Here is an early beginning to the control room for the "Revival Planet". Its been alot of trial and error and sketches and rip ups just to get it to here. Its a tedious process but hopefully one that pays off.

between this and my motion graphics class... which has become quite tedious for me... im working a fast as i can i suppose... i just wish i had more time or could move quicker.

domain names galore

so... in preparation for future officiality... i bought two domain names today...

http://www.patrick-garcia.com/

and

http://www.patrick-garcia.net/

There isnt anything at them yet... they are just parked... but soon i hope to have glorious pages residing at them!

Completed Storyboard

I finished storyboarding. You may notice that i got lazy and never finished making a digital version of each shot... but just deal with it. :) anywho, now i am modeling the "control room" environment. i think its comin along well. I am also trying to get my thesis committee together. (more on that when i get yes's and ok's)

THIS IS STILL SUBJECT TO CHANGE...

NOTE: As a precaution i have watermarked every image in the storyboard... but i hope you understand... i got to protect my stuff from the interweb theives!

Good news!

i am back in action. I finished Studio II where i got alot of my Thesis paper started... so i should have that finished by January. I passed my 45 Hour Review which was a big hurdle... but i got through it which means i can now get a committee together and actually apply for Thesis. And now i am taking Directed Projects for Animation I... which means i can start work on the film portion.

This means more visual updates will be coming your way throughout the quarter! Good stuff!

So yeah... that is where i am at on thesis. Sorry for no major stimulus this time but hopefully soon. I will start a brand spankin new storyboard soon... and start planning shots... so when i do... i will upload those for your critique and input.

laters!

2 weeks of... BLANK

I haven't posted in two weeks... that is because i haven't done anything really in two weeks...

in fact... i have hit a annoying snag in the form of one of my professors. He feels that i and my fellow students have no idea what we are doing... we just "think" we do. So long story short, i may be in a rut until this class is over.

It is incredibly frustrating...

So i apologize for no major update right now... when serious work is allowed to continue on my thesis... i will be able to show you more substantial stuff.

In the mean time... i hope the following will interest you. This is the walkcycle i created for the original EMO character.

[NOTE: I usually just animate other pre-made characters. But for this, I designed, modeled, textured, rigged & animated this character... as i will most likely do for all the characters and objects in my thesis]

Enjoi!

Early Development and Design

So here is the dealio...

I started early development back during Winter quarter... During that time i tried to come up with an idea that i thought would not only be fun for me and hold my interest, but also be something that others could invest in... i didnt have any character in mind and i needed a stand in that could still convey the idea i wanted to get across...

Since i live with a wonderful artist who i have collaborated with before, i optioned to use a variation of his characterizations as a stand in until i came up with a character of my own...

So in brief... i started with a rough story idea... barely outlined with no solid characters... i then drew up a rough storyboard and 3 concept images... that way i, and others, could get an idea of the direction that was forming in my head and what it might look like later on.

With that finished i went into Spring quarter and "Studio I"... a class designed specifically to help nurture budding thesis ideas...

it was during this quarter that i began to solidify what concepts i was working with, the character id officially use, and really start hammering out early workings of my paper as well as fixing up the story for my film.

It occurred to me that i should go back through my sketchbook and see what characters i had already designed. The first major hit was a guy i call, "EMOticon". A year or so ago i had come up with this guy, and had actually taken the design off the page, through a variation and brought him unto fruition so to speak. But the direction i had gone had made him bulky and he didnt quite fit in the world i was imagining...

HOWEVER... looking back at his original design... i realized that i had found my character! I had always wanted to use him for a larger story than i had... and this was my chance.
It was suggested on multiple occasions that the story was missing something. An interaction with other characters... so i delved back into my sketches and found a little guy i call "Bip" (i dont know why i call him that... i just do) But I found with Bip... i had the dynamic i was looking for... and i could think of a thousand new ways that these two characters could interact and in turn, beef up the story through their relationship.
I then proceeded to model them in 3D... and work out size comparison and personalities and such... but more on that in the next post... for now... enjoy the final renders...

Below, is what they looked like "finished" (they still need some work) and an early idea i had for their introduction (which will most likely change)...

The First of Many...

So... because people are always asking, "How do you do, what you do?" and because others. for whatever reason, love to keep informed of my progress... i have decided to try and keep a production blog for my thesis film (& paper... possibly).

That way, all you wonderful people out there on the interwebs can keep abreast of my happenings and what not, and HOPEFULLY, give me timely feedback to help me create a wonderful animated film.

To kick off this wonderful little experiment... i give you... a tiny little treat in the form of a tiny digital poster... enjoy!
